Federal Grants Recieved in the District in 2017:

  • Palm Beach State College received $270,375 from the Department of Education for their Upward Bound/TRIO programs, which help low income and first-generation college students prepare and apply for post-secondary education.
  • Palm Beach County received $1,085,609.17 from FEMA for Emergency Protective Measures taken because of Hurricane Matthew.
  • The Norton Museum of Art received $20,000.00 from the National Endowment of the Arts to support the exhibition ''Earth Works: Mapping the Anthropocene - Photographs by Justin Brice Guariglia.” The exhibition includes educational programming such as docent led tours, curator talks, expert lectures, and the creation of a STEAM curriculum developed in collaboration with NASA.
  • The Palm Beach Opera received $10,000.00 from the National Endowment of the Arts to support performances of Mozart's "Le Nozze di Figaro" ("The Marriage of Figaro") and related education and community engagement programs.
  • West Palm Beach Fire Rescue received $159,873.00 from the Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program (AFG) to provide training to firefighters.
  • West Palm Beach Fire Rescue received $2,354,586 from the Department of Homeland Security’s Staffing for Adequate Fire & Emergency Response (SAFER) Grant Program to hire additional firefighters.
  • Riviera Beach Fire Rescue received $1,335,761 from the Department of Homeland Security’s Staffing for Adequate Fire & Emergency Response (SAFER) Grant Program to hire additional firefighters.
  • The Palm Beach County Sherriff received $964,982 for the President-Elect Security Assistance Reimbursement Grant Program from the Department of Justice to reimburse local police for overtime incurred while protecting the President-Elect.
  • The Town of Palm Beach Police Department received $24,343 for the President-Elect Security Assistance Reimbursement Grant Program from the Department of Justice to reimburse local police for overtime incurred while protecting the President-Elect.
  • The West Palm Beach Police Department received $11,355 for the President-Elect Security Assistance Reimbursement Grant Program from the Department of Justice to reimburse local police for overtime incurred while protecting the President-Elect.
  • The Town of Palm Beach received $4,064,559.75 from FEMA to re-nourish public beaches eroded by Hurricane Matthew.
  • Palm Beach County received $1,875,000 for the COPS Hiring Program through the Department of Justice to hire police officers.
  • The Norton Museum of Art in West Palm received $50,000 from the National Endowment for the Humanities for their Teen After School Arts Outreach program, which will allow the museum to expand their innovative after-school art programs to children living in underserved communities.
  • Palm Beach County Sherriff received $3,293,988 for the Presidential Residence Protection Assistance Grant through FEMA to reimburse local police for overtime incurred while protecting the President.
  • Town of Palm Beach Police Department received $71,270 for the Presidential Residence Protection Assistance Grant through FEMA to reimburse local police for overtime incurred while protecting the President.
  • The West Palm Beach Police Department received $63,163 for the Presidential Residence Protection Assistance Grant through FEMA to reimburse local police for overtime incurred while protecting the President.
  • The Spady Cultural Heritage Museum in Delray Beach received $10,00 from the National Endowment of the Arts to support the multidisciplinary Spady Living Heritage Festival, including the creation and performance of an original theater production marking the 50th anniversary of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

  • Florida Atlantic University received $1.6 million from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) for its Cooperative Institute for Ocean Exploration, Research, and Technology, which conducts undersea research.
  • $280,625 from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke to Bioaxone Biosciences of Fort Lauderdale for brain disease research.
  • $4.2 million from the Health Resources and Services Administration to the Palm Beach County Board of County Commissioners for HIV emergency relief work.
  • Dioxide Materials in Boca Raton received $2 million from the Department of Energy to develop technology for energy storage.
  • $590,756 from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to Foundcare in West Palm Beach for the Health Center Cluster program.
  • Lake Worth was awarded $1.389 million from the Economic Development Administration for infrastructure improvements related to roads and sidewalks to support a commerce park.
  • $499,999 from the Economic Development Administration to CareerSource Broward for a center at Broward College to foster start-ups.
  • The University of Florida received $6.8 million from U.S. Department of Agriculture and $2 million went to the University of Central Florida for citrus greening research.
  • $612,652 from the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development to Florida Atlantic University for a research program on early dual language development in children who grow up in Spanish-speaking households.
  • Florida Atlantic University was awarded $399,727 from the National Science Foundation for water absorbent material research.
  • $547,938 from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute to ArchieMed, a Boca Raton-based health sciences firm, to develop 3D virtual reality training for doctors to teach them how to operate on young patients having trouble breathing.
  • Palm Beach County School District received $16,000 to from the National Institute of Standards and Technology to organize a workshop for local teachers on using measurement science in the classroom.
  • $1.14 million to Genesis Community Health of Boynton Beach from the Health Resources and Services Administration to increase access to healthcare.
  • ArchieMD received a grant from the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) for $100,000 to fund research into health and safety training for hazardous waste workers.
  • $131,339 from the National Science Foundation to Florida Atlantic University for the continued study of how gravity is affect in strong gravitational fields like a black hole, which will help scientists in space and time research.
  • $10,000 from National Education Association to Palm Beach Poetry Festival of Lake Worth for its annual event, which includes poetry workshops, public readings, and author discussions. 
  • $15,000 from National Endowment of the Arts to Palm Beach Opera of West Palm Beach to support the final year of its three-year community education program, including concerts at K-12 schools and student workshops.
  • West Palm Beach Fire Rescue was awarded $187,108 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency for safety equipment and training.
  • The U.S. Housing and Urban Development agency provided $171,864 to West Palm Beach and Fort Lauderdale Housing Authorities to help homeless veterans find residence. 
  • $189,300 from the U.S. Housing and Urban Development agency and Veterans Affairs to West Palm Beach Housing Authority to help find housing for homeless veterans.
  • $43,940 from the National Science Foundation to Florida Atlantic University for the advancement of computer code studies.
  • The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease provided Florida Atlantic University with $459,580 for allergy, immunology, and transplantation research. The research will specifically focus on developing disposable and refrigeration-free microchip technology for counting immune system cells.
  • $416,538 from Federal Emergency Management Agency to Broward County Fire Rescue for safety and operations.
  • $683,661 from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to Florida Atlantic University for nurse training programs.
  • Opportunities Industrialization Center (OIC) of Broward received $1,360,000 from the U.S. Department of Labor to fund its career pathway programs for recently released prisoners.
  • $116,417 from National Fish and Wildlife Foundation to Florida Atlantic University for a hands-on student program to restore native snail species, plant 2,500 trees, and remove invasive species in two Everglades nature preserves in west Boynton and Palm Beach Gardens. 
  • $15.712 million from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to the State of Florida via the Emergency Management Performance Grant (EMPG) program to assist local governments to prepare for and protect life and property from hazards.
  • The U.S. Department of Homeland Security provided $11 million to the State of Florida via the State Homeland Security Program (SHSP) to support strategies to protect against and respond to acts of terrorism and other catastrophic events.
  • $5.43 million from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to the Miami-Fort Lauderdale metro area via the Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI) program to address the needs of high-threat, high-density urban areas to protect against and respond to acts of terrorism.
  • $1 million from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to the Port of Palm Beach and $1.8 million to Port Everglades via the Port Security Grant Program to provide security services at our nation’s ports. The Port Everglades funding is split between Broward County Sheriff’s Office, the City of Fort Lauderdale, and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission.
  • The U.S. Department of Homeland Security provided $215,000 to Palm Beach County and $200,000 to Broward County via the Operation Stonegarden (OPSG) program to enhance cooperation among local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies to secure U.S. borders.
  • $209,674 from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to Florida Atlantic University to study new cancer killing cells which are found in deep water sponges. These cells have been shown to be very effective against pancreatic cancer.
  • Broward County received $11,443,371.00 from the U.S. Department of Transportation for improvement of sidewalks and bike lanes.
  • Palm Beach State College received $480,000 from the U.S. Department of Education for their Talent Search program.
  • Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue received $428,010 from Federal Emergency Management Agency for the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) program.
  • Florida Atlantic University received a $202,985 grant from the National Institute of Drug Abuse to explore new methods to treat opioid addiction.
  • Veteran Affairs for the Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) program provided United Way of Broward with $2,020,000 to help very low-income veteran families prevent homelessness.
  • Veteran Affairs for the Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) program provided Stand Down with $ 982,124 to help very low-income veteran families prevent homelessness.
  • The Boca Raton Airport received $4,449,800.00 from the Department of Transportation to improve their runway.
  • North Broward Hospital District received $100,000 from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for early intervention services related to HIV primary care.
  • Epigenetix received $189,388 from the National Institute on Drug Abuse to fund drug abuse and addiction research programs.
  • Broward College received a grant for $941,265 from the National Science Foundation to implement their new program called the Scholarships Targeting Recruitment of Individuals for Degrees in Environmental Science (STRIDES).
  • $116,417 from National Fish and Wildlife Foundation to Florida Atlantic University for a hands-on student program to restore native snail species, plant 2,500 trees, and remove invasive species in two Everglades nature preserves in west Boynton and Palm Beach Gardens. 
  • $399,749 from the National Science Foundation to Florida Atlantic University for the study of red blood cells in order to find ways to cure blood diseases like sickle cell.
  • Florida Atlantic University received $253,136 from the National Science Foundation for research in technology related to finding water leaks and connecting technology to infrastructure.
  • Florida Atlantic University received $432,869 from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences to study how drugs affect the brain.
  • Florida Atlantic University received $253,136 from the National Science Foundation for research in technology related to finding water leaks and connecting technology to infrastructure.
  • Broward County Schools received $8,301,631 from the Department of Education for their Teacher Incentive Fund Program. This will fund teacher professional development programs.  
  • Florida Atlantic University received $756,415 from the Department of Education to increase the number of Hispanic and other low-income students in STEM fields. FAU recently became a Minority Serving Institution, which qualifies them for more federal programs to assist students. 
  • Florida Atlantic University received $63,320 from NOAA to research the effects of fresh water on coral reefs and the implications for Water Resource Management in Southeast Florida.

  • Enroll America Florida received a $50,000 grant from the Quantum Foundation.

  • The Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization received an $11 million TIGER Grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation. 
  • Palm Beach County School District received $7,217,054 from the Department of Education for their Magnet Schools program. The county has multiple magnet schools with a strong focus in STEM Education and International Baccalaureate programs. 
  • Palm Beach State College received $246,000 from the Department of Education to assist low-income students with applying for college, career exploration, and financial aid assistance. 
  • City of Fort Lauderdale received $1,000,000 from the Department of Justice for the COPS Hiring Program. This will allow the city to hire 8 additional police officers.
