Art Competition

Submissions are now open for the 2021 Congressional Art Competition!

7th - 12th grade students from Palm Beach County are invited to participate in The Artistic Discovery Contest, a nation-wide high school arts competition sponsored by the Members of the U.S. House of Representatives. This is an opportunity to recognize and encourage the artistic talent in the nation, as well as in our congressional district.

The Artistic Discovery Contest is open to all 7th - 12th grade students in Florida’s 21st District. The winning artwork will be displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol.

 

Rules

Artwork entered in the contest may be up to 26 inches high x 26 inches wide x 4 inches deep, including framing.

They must weigh less than 15 pounds, including framing.

The artwork may be:

  • Paintings - including oil, acrylics, and watercolor
  • Drawings - including pastels, colored pencil, pencil, charcoal, ink, and markers
  • Collages
  • Prints - including lithographs, silkscreen, and block prints
  • Mixed Media
  • Computer Generated Art
  • Photography

All entries must be an original in concept, design and execution. Students are not permitted to collaborate on a piece; one student per submission. Artwork can be made for the competition or be an existing piece - as long as the winning submission can be physically turned in and hung in the U.S. Capitol for a year.

To enter, students will need to submit two items: a high-resolution photo of their original work, and a Student Release Form (linked below) via email to Trevor.Fleming@mail.house.gov by May 1st.

The Congressional Art Competition began in 1982 to provide an opportunity for members of Congress to encourage and recognize the artistic talents of their young constituents. Since then, over 650,000 high school students have been involved with the nationwide competition.
