Immigration

Our district reflects the United States’s diverse and vibrant immigrant community. All immigrants deserve dignity, respect, and a chance at reaching the American Dream. While we work towards long-term, comprehensive, fair immigration reform, we must also ensure that those migrating to our country follow legal processes and that our border enforcement officers have the resources they need to keep our border safe and secure. As a Member of the House Appropriations Committee, I have voted for increased funding for new, more sophisticated border technology, hiring more customs officers, and improving inspections at ports of entry. Through these investments, we have improved officer safety and reduced the smuggling of fentanyl and weapons.

I am committed to continuing to improve border security while also providing a pathway to legal citizenship for those who came to this country as children and protecting those escaping persecution or conflict in their home countries. I will continue to advocate for legal pathways to citizenship, improving visa wait times for workers essential to our economy, and ending inhumane practices like forced detention and family separation.
