National Security and Foreign Policy

U.S. global leadership is critical to our own national security and the safety and stability of the entire world. As the lead Democrat on the House Appropriations National Security, Department of State, and Related Programs Subcommittee, I am fighting to protect funding for international programs that strengthen our national security, boost access to education and health care, protect human rights, and uphold our promises to our partners around the globe. Foreign assistance is not charity; it’s strategy. When we invest in vulnerable communities, empower women and girls, deliver essential humanitarian aid, promote democracy, and develop trading partners, we make the United States safer, stronger, and more prosperous. As Co-Chair of the Bipartisan Women, Peace, and Security Caucus, I work with colleagues to promote the role of women in conflict resolution and peacebuilding. When women are empowered in these fields, peacekeeping missions are more successful and peace is longer-lasting.  When women and girls are provided safety and opportunity worldwide, the entire world is safer and stronger. I am committed to the implementation of the Women, Peace, and Security Act of 2017 to ensure women have active, meaningful roles in all aspects of society and women maintain active roles in advancing democracy and stability worldwide.
