I believe all Americans deserve access to affordable, quality health care. For far too long, America’s health care system has been too expensive for many hardworking families and individuals. In 2010, Congress passed the Affordable Care Act (ACA) to lower costs and provide quality health care to all Americans. Millions of people rely on the protections and benefits that this legislation provides, including prohibiting insurance companies from denying insurance for pre-existing conditions or dropping coverage when people get sick. And Florida leads the nation in signups through the ACA insurance marketplace, with over 4 million Floridians enrolled in affordable health care through the marketplace in 2024. Since I’ve been in Congress, I have continued to work to improve and strengthen the ACA to make coverage accessible for even more Americans. In 2021, Congressional Democrats passed the American Rescue Plan, which allowed an additional 6 million Americans to enroll in affordable health care through the ACA, 80 percent of whom enrolled for under $10 per month. In 2022, we extended these benefits through 2025 with the passage of President Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). The IRA also lowered Medicare costs by capping insulin at $35 per month, capping seniors’ annual out-of-pocket drug spending, ensuring free vaccines for Medicare beneficiaries, and allowing Medicare to negotiate lower drug prices for the first time. I will continue to fight for more affordable and accessible quality health care for all Americans. |
