As both the daughter and mother of Veterans, I will always advocate for the rights and benefits our servicemembers and Veterans deserve.
I believe we must continue to improve services and resources for our Veterans, including access to health care, education, housing, and workforce training. That’s why in 2022, Congress passed and President Biden signed into law the Honoring Our PACT Act, which expanded eligibility for Veterans Administration (VA) health care benefits to Veterans exposed to burn pits, Agent Orange, and other toxic substances. I am also proud to sponsor the bipartisan Veteran Education Empowerment Act, which would authorize Centers of Excellence for Veteran Student Success at universities and colleges across the country, helping student Veterans transition from military to student life. Through this program, we have provided nearly $50 million in grants to over 100 schools since 2015, including Florida International University, so campuses can better serve student Veterans.
This Congress, I have fervently pushed back against Republicans' Big Ugly Bill, to protect Medicaid and SNAP benefits for Veterans and to ensure that all women Veterans have the right to decide when and how to start a family.
As a Member of the House Appropriations Committee, each year I fight for increased funding for health care and workforce training for Veterans, as well as assistance for Veterans suffering from homelessness. I will always fight for those who served our nation.
