Rep. Frankel Supports New Measures To Stop Gun Violence

Speaks Out Against Weakening Gun Trafficking Laws

In the wake of more senseless shootings near the University of California-Santa Barbara and an 18-month-old child in West Palm Beach, Congresswoman Lois Frankel is joining like-minded colleagues, again calling on Congress to pass sensible gun safety legislation.

“How many more people do we need to lose to senseless acts of gun violence before changes are made? Nothing justifies the shooting of children. While there’s no magic wand to stop all gun violence, doing nothing is not a responsible option. Congress needs to pass common-sense legislation to reduce gun violence and strengthen mental health resources if we are to prevent more families from suffering the loss of their child at the hands of a gun,” said Frankel.

Congresswoman Frankel, who is a member of the Congressional Gun Violence Task Force, is a long-time supporter of background check laws. During tonight’s debate of the Commerce-Justice-Science (CJS) appropriations bill, she will vote for a bipartisan amendment to invest an additional $19.5 million to help states improve submissions to the national background check system.

Congresswoman Frankel will also take to the floor of the House to argue against weakening gun trafficking laws.

She will join colleagues on May 30 to support the Promoting Healthy Minds for Safer Communities Act of 2014 designed to strengthen mental health intervention and research
