Congresswoman Lois Frankel (FL-22) today called on Congress to pass legislation to extend Department of Homeland Security (DHS) funding before it runs out on Feb. 27. Unfortunately, this funding bill is stalled due to a dispute with Republicans regarding the President’s executive orders on immigration that prioritize deporting felons over breaking up families and give opportunities to undocumented immigrants who came to America as children.
“With threats of potential acts of violence by independent actors encouraged by terrorist groups like ISIL, now is not the time allow a shutdown or downsize the agency that protects our borders, skies, and communities,” said Frankel. “Republicans should separate their anger over the President’s executive orders from this important bill that must be passed to keep DHS open and our country safe. If Republicans want to overturn the President’s actions, it should be debated in a separate measure, not in a way that puts our nation’s security at risk.”
