Frankel Statement on Labor Secretary Acosta’s Resignation

Washington, DC – Today, Representative Lois Frankel (D-FL-21) issued the following statement after Secretary of Labor Alexander Acosta announced his resignation, effective seven days from today.

“Secretary Acosta did the right thing by resigning. Still, there are many questions surrounding the sweetheart deal he negotiated for Jeffrey Epstein, a sexual predator who was able to roam free for more than a decade. For the survivors to get justice, we need answers as to what happened at both the state attorney and federal prosecutor’s offices in Florida.”

In April during a House Appropriations Committee hearing, Congresswoman Frankel pressed Acosta on his handling of the Epstein case (clip). He was unwilling to answer her questions and Frankel followed up with a written request for responses. As of today, Secretary Acosta has still not responded. A list of her questions can be found here.
