Democratic Women’s Caucus Leadership Condemns the Misogynistic Wall Street Journal Op-Ed Targeting Dr. Jill Biden

Today, Democratic Women’s Caucus (DWC) Co-Chairs Congresswomen Brenda L. Lawrence (MI-14), Jackie Speier (CA-14) and Lois Frankel (FL-21), and Vice Chairs Congresswomen Veronica Escobar (TX-16) and Deb Haaland (NM-01) issued the following statement condemning the misogynistic Wall Street Journal Op-Ed targeting Dr. Jill Biden.

“Unfortunately, the constant stream of misogynistic attacks leveled against accomplished women has no bounds. As leaders of the DWC we give no credence to the idea that Dr. Jill Biden shouldn’t be allowed to use a title she earned through merit and tireless work because it does not fit the author’s unfounded conception of the work that merits recognition,” said the Democratic Women’s Caucus leadership.

“Dr. Biden, like the countless accomplished Ph.Ds. in our country, deserves and should proudly display her hard-earned degree. Belittling the intellect, passion, and dedication of our nation’s educators is not only reprehensible on its face, but also reveals a dangerous lack of respect for the power a quality education and compassionate teachers have to change lives. The suggestion that Dr. Biden should ‘settle for the larger thrill of living for the next four years in the best public housing in the world as First Lady Jill Biden,’ misses the reality that the future First Lady Dr. Jill Biden — alongside Vice President-elect Harris and the other talented women in the incoming Administration — will continue to demonstrate that there are no limits to what women can achieve, especially after being given the opportunity of an education. We look forward to working together.”
