Democratic Women’s Caucus Urges Nomination of Shalanda Young as Next OMB Director

Today, Democratic Women’s Caucus (DWC) Co-Chairs Congresswomen Brenda Lawrence (MI-14), Jackie Speier (CA-14), and Lois Frankel (FL-21), and Vice Chair Congresswoman Veronica Escobar (TX-16) released the following statement on their support for Shalanda Young as the next Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Director. Young is currently the nominee for Deputy Director of OMB.

“With the withdrawal of Neera Tanden’s nomination, we believe Shalanda Young would be an excellent choice to lead the Office of Management and Budget. Ms. Young brings a wealth of experience, has a deep understanding of the federal budget and appropriations process, and played an essential role in negotiating Congress’ funding and coronavirus response bills. This experience makes her a strong choice to implement President Biden’s budget and the administration’s policy agenda across the entire federal government.

“In her more than 14 years of working on the House Committee on Appropriations, Ms. Young has garnered the respect of Members from both sides of the aisle and worked to ensure that our budget reflects the values of the American people, including priorities that are essential for women and girls. As our country continues to grapple with the economic and health crises facing our nation, the role of the Office of Management and Budget is critical now more than ever before. We believe Ms. Young is the best individual to execute the President’s mission to Build Back Better and ensure the government is working effectively on behalf of the American people.”
