Democratic Women’s Caucus Announces New Vice Chair Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia (TX-29)

Today, the Democratic Women’s Caucus (DWC) announced the results of Monday’s leadership election to fill the Vice Chair vacancy left after former Congresswoman Deb Haaland was sworn in as Secretary of the Interior. The DWC is proud to announce Congresswoman Sylvia R. Garcia (TX-29) was elected to serve as the new Vice Chair for the remainder of the 117th Congress.

“It is an honor to be elected to the leadership of the Democratic Women’s Caucus,” Vice Chair Garcia said. “The 117th Congress has the highest number of women serving in the House in our country’s history, which means our caucus is as big as ever. However, there is still much to be done in the fight for equality. I look forward to working beside my fellow congresswomen in advancing the cause of women’s rights, equal pay, and other issues that will help improve the lives of the future generations of women in our country.”

The Democratic Women’s Caucus is comprised of all the Democratic women in the U.S. House of Representatives and currently has 89 members in the 117th Congress. Vice Chair Congresswoman Sylvia R. Garcia (TX-29) joins Co-Chairs Congresswomen Jackie Speier (CA-14), Brenda Lawrence (MI-14), and Lois Frankel (FL-21) and Vice Chair Congresswoman Veronica Escobar (TX-16) to serve as the DWC leadership.
