West Palm Beach, FL – Today, Congresswoman Lois Frankel (FL-21) released the following statement after the House passed the Women’s Health Protection Act, which would protect access to safe legal abortion care, regardless of where a person lives. “The decision of whether, if, and when to become a parent is one of the most personal life decisions we can make, and it’s a decision that should be between a patient and the people they trust—not politicians or vigilante strangers,” said Rep. Frankel. “Laws like what we are seeing in Texas and proposed legislation in my home state of Florida are meant to put power, money, and politics over the health and safety of people who need abortion care. That’s why this bill is so important. It is a beacon of hope in the fight for reproductive freedom and will protect both patients and health care providers.” The Women’s Health Protection Act would prohibit states from enacting medically unnecessary restrictions that unfairly target abortion providers and prevent patients from getting the care they need, including the recently enacted S.B. 8 in Texas and recently introduced legislation in Florida. The Women’s Health Protection Act passed by a vote of 218-211. The bill now heads to the Senate for its approval. ### |
