Rep. Frankel Statement on House Passage of Build Back Better Act

Washington, DC – Today, Representative Lois Frankel (FL-21), released the following statement after the House of Representatives passed the Build Back Better Act.

“Today is a historic and exciting day for families across America,” said Rep. Frankel. “Now that this transformational bill has passed the House, we are one step closer to delivering on the President’s promise to Build Back Better. This bill is a once-in-a-generation investment in the care economy, universal pre-K education, paid leave, clean energy, and lower health care costs, all being fully paid for by making sure big corporations & the wealthiest pay their fair share of taxes.  I urge the Senate to take up and pass this bill immediately.”

The Build Back Better Act will:

  • Lower health care costs by allowing Medicare to negotiate lower drug costs for seniors, halting Big Pharma’s outrageous price hikes above inflation, and expanding the Affordable Care Act to make coverage more affordable for those who buy insurance on their own;
  • Lower child care & family care costs by expanding the basic promise of free schooling in America for the first time in 100 years with universal pre-school for all 3- and 4-year-olds, cutting families’ child care costs, extending the landmark Biden Child Tax Credit, and expanding access to affordable home care for older adults and those with disabilities;
  • Secure the largest investment to combat climate crisis in history by cutting pollution, reducing energy costs, creating good paying jobs with a transformational investment to ensure America leads the clean energy economy, and;
  • Fight inflation, as it is fully paid for by making sure that big corporations and the wealthiest pay their fair share, and ensuring no one making under $400,000 will pay a penny more in taxes.

The Build Back Better Act passed the House by a vote of 220 – 213. It now goes to the Senate.
