After Congressman Paul Ryan released the House Republican budget, Congresswoman Lois Frankel issued the following statement:
“Budgets are about values and priorities and the House Republican plan balances the budget on the backs of seniors and would eliminate jobs and jeopardize our economic recovery, while protecting tax breaks for the special interests. That’s just wrong for South Florida and the country,” Frankel said. “We need to get our fiscal house in order and it must be done with a balanced approach that protects Medicare and Social Security and invests in infrastructure, education and innovation. Spending cuts should be reasoned, not in the fashion of the sequester.”
The House Republican budget ends the Medicare guarantee and shifts health care costs to seniors, including raising the cost of prescription drugs for many seniors. In Florida’s 22nd congressional district there are more than 141,000 seniors.
The Republican budget would cost over 750,000 jobs this year alone, just as our economy is turning the corner.
