Rep. Frankel Votes to Preserve Election Integrity

Washington, DC – Today, Congresswoman Lois Frankel (FL-21), released the following statement after voting for the Presidential Election Reform Act (PERA) to preserve the integrity of presidential elections by putting in place stronger and more specific procedures by which Congress certifies election results.

“January 6th was a dark day for America and showed us that we cannot take our democracy for granted,” said Rep. Frankel. “Today, I’m proud to have voted for legislation to update and strengthen our democratic process and protect it for future generations.”

PERA will ensure that Congress counts the votes as required by the Constitution by mandating that States select electors in accordance with state law existing as of the date of the election, requiring that Congress receives a single accurate electoral certificate from each state, providing a federal judicial remedy in the event that a state governor refuses to certify the lawful result of a presidential election, and more.

The bill passed the House by a vote of 229-203 and awaits action from the Senate.
