Today in a bipartisan effort, Congresswoman Lois Frankel (FL-22) voted to keep the government running and prevent a government shutdown on March 27th that would have immediate and harmful consequences for our economy and all aspects of American life.
A shutdown for example would result in the delay of Social Security claims being processed and force veterans seeking benefits to face even longer waits to be granted benefits.
“Democrats and Republicans came together to do the responsible thing and avoid a government shutdown that would have disastrous economic consequences, however there still is a lot more work to do on the budget and we must stop the bad consequences of the mindless budget cuts of the sequester,” Frankel said. “My constituents sent me to Washington to compromise and find solutions and we did the right thing by keeping our government running.”
While Frankel and the House approved the Senate-passed version of the Continuing Resolution, she said it’s critical that Congress work hard to resolve the sequester and pass a budget that protects the Medicare guarantee, creates jobs, invests in education, infrastructure and innovation.
The Continuing Resolution that keeps the government going will now go to President Obama to be signed into law.
