Rep. Frankel Statement On January 6 Anniversary, Certification of 2024 Election
Washington,
January 6, 2025
Washington, DC – Today, Representative Lois Frankel (FL-22) released the following statement marking the fourth anniversary of the January 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol as Congress convened to certify the 2024 election. “January 6, 2021, will forever be remembered as a day of violence and insurrection—a dark moment in our nation’s history. Four years ago, a violent mob attacked the U.S. Capitol in a coordinated attempt to halt the peaceful transfer of power, leaving more than 140 police officers seriously injured and lives lost. That day, I hid in the Capitol barricaded in a room for hours to avoid the mob,” said Rep. Frankel. “Today, as I attend the certification of newly elected President, I am deeply grateful for the bravery of our Capitol Police officers, whose heroism defended our institutions. As we reflect on that somber anniversary and move forward with a new administration, we must all recommit to protecting our democracy from those who seek to undermine it.”
