Today, Rep. Lois Frankel (FL-22) voted against Republicans’ latest attempt to punish Planned Parenthood, one of the premier healthcare organizations in our nation, only because it provides an array of services – including legal abortions. “This Chamber’s latest fiasco would leave millions of women with no place to go for basic, preventative healthcare services,” said Rep. Frankel on the House floor. “I am sad to say that Republicans are more obsessed with the uteruses of American women than the real issues facing our country.” At some point in her lifetime, one in five American women will turn to Planned Parenthood. In fact, Planned Parenthood provides 400,000 Pap smears, 500,000 breast exams, 4.5 million STD tests, and prevents 500,000 unwanted pregnancies each year. The bill passed 240-189. The bill will now move to the Senate for consideration. If passed, it will face a certain veto by President Obama.
