Rep. Frankel Calls for Impeachment of DHS Secretary Kristi Noem

Today, Rep. Lois Frankel (FL-22) announced her support for a House resolution to impeach Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem for grave abuses of power, including ICE’s systemic violations of due process rights for undocumented individuals, lawful residents, and even American citizens.

“At Secretary Noem’s direction, ICE has unleashed a campaign of cruelty that tramples the Constitution, ignores the rule of law, and strips people of their basic rights,” said Rep. Frankel. “Families are being torn apart and businesses disrupted. What ICE is doing on the streets of America is an abomination. We can and must have an orderly immigration system—but we will not accept one that treats the law, due process, and human dignity as optional.

For a democracy to survive, no one—not even a Cabinet secretary—is above the law,” Rep. Frankel added. “Secretary Noem’s actions demand accountability.”

The impeachment resolution charges Secretary Noem with high crimes and misdemeanors, including:

  • Systematically violating due process rights in the treatment of undocumented individuals and lawful residents;
  • Breaking the law by obstructing Members of Congress from conducting oversight of ICE facilities;
  • Unilaterally imposing a seven-day advance notice requirement for congressional visits to DHS facilities without legal authority;
  • Withholding congressionally appropriated FEMA funding for the Emergency Food and Shelter Program;
  • Abusing her position to circumvent federal contracting rules and steer taxpayer dollars to businesses connected to her associates.
