WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Rep. Lois Frankel (FL-21) took to the House floor to call for Congressional action in the wake of a horrific mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Broward County, Florida. Frankel’s district is just north of Broward County.
Below, please find Rep. Frankel’s full remarks.
“Thank you, Madame Speaker. You know, you send your child to school and you expect they’re gonna come home safely. I am so sad for the grieving families of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland. Innocent children, gone in a blink.
I’m thankful for the first responders, but foremost, my thoughts are with the grieving families, the students, and the teachers affected by this horrific shooting.
We see this carnage over and over again. Oh yeah, we know there’s no magic solution. But that doesn’t mean that there are no solutions. Now, we need more resources for mental health – not tax cuts for billionaires. And yes, Mr. President – are you listening? We need common sense gun safety legislation. Not these idiotic bills that expand gun usage.
I yield back.”
