WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Lois Frankel (FL-21) issued the following statement on the tragic passing of Congresswoman Louise Slaughter:
“I am so sad about the passing of Louise Slaughter. I first met Louise more than 30 years ago at campaign school – she was running for Congress while I was running for Florida’s state legislature. We stayed in touch over the years, following each other’s careers. She was the first Member of Congress to encourage and embrace my own campaign for the House of Representatives. I’d often stay with her and her late-husband Bob at their home.
Louise’s no-nonsense ferocity in protecting women’s reproductive health and our American values has inspired me and countless others. Her steadfast integrity over 16 terms in Congress is remarkable and should be the golden standard every office holder seeks to achieve.
She was a fierce leader and a role model to all, and will be sorely missed. I’m keeping her children, grandchildren and great-grandchild in my thoughts during this heart-breaking time.”
