All Democrat Members of the Florida Delegation Urge Senate Republicans to Pass Disaster Relief Package Before Leaving Town this Week

Funds include assistance for Florida, Puerto Rico and other affected regions

Today, all Democrat Members of the Florida delegation called on Senate Republicans to pass a disaster relief package before adjourning for recess and provide much-needed assistance for Florida, Puerto Rico, the Midwest and other areas affected by recent natural disasters.

Washington, D.C.   Today, all Democrat Members of the Florida delegation called on Senate Republicans to pass a disaster relief package before adjourning for recess and provide much-needed assistance for Florida, Puerto Rico, the Midwest and other areas affected by recent natural disasters.

Stated all Democrats from the Florida Delegation:

"The House of Representatives already approved a $14 billion disaster relief package several months ago. It is time for the Senate Republicans to prioritize Americans struggling to recover and act to provide disaster assistance that meets the needs of all disaster survivors without further delay.

“Without these federal funds, Florida and other areas throughout the country will not have the resources they need to recover from catastrophic hurricanes, flooding, tornadoes and other natural disasters. It is also alarming that 1.4 million American citizens in Puerto Rico enrolled in the Nutrition Assistance Program have already begun to see cuts or lose their food aid entirely. While we believe it is absolutely crucial to provide additional Nutrition Assistance Program funds to the island, Puerto Rico has other recovery needs that must be addressed in a disaster supplemental bill as well.

“Small-business owners in Florida, farmers in Iowa, home-owners in Texas, ranchers in Missouri, children in Puerto Rico, and all American families affected by these recent natural disasters are counting on Congress to Act. We urge Leader McConnell to allow a vote on the Leahy-Schumer Amendment or pass legislation to match the House-passed version of the supplemental disaster aid package.”

Democrat members of the Florida delegation include: Rep. Al Lawson (FL-05), Rep. Darren Soto (FL-09), Rep. Charlie Crist (FL-13), Rep. Alcee Hastings (FL-20), Rep. Ted Deutch (FL-22), Rep. Frederica Wilson (FL-24), Rep. Donna Shalala (FL-27), Rep. Stephanie Murphy (FL-07), Rep. Val Demings (FL-10), Rep. Kathy Castor (FL-14), Rep. Lois Frankel (FL-21), Rep.
