Frankel Urges Support for Congressional Oversight of Potential Iran Deal

Calls on the House to pass the Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act

Congresswoman Lois Frankel (FL-22) urged her colleagues to vote in support of the Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act, which the House is considering later today.  This bill, which last week passed the Senate 98-1, would provide Congressional oversight of any potential deal. Click here to watch the Congresswoman’s remarks on the House floor.

“Mr. Speaker, I rise in support of the bipartisan Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act.

And I want to remind everyone why it is so important that we prevent Iran from becoming a nuclear weapons state.

Iran is the world’s leading state-sponsor of terrorism, supporting Hamas, Hezbollah, and the brutal crackdown in Syria.

Iran’s effort to expand its influence is destabilizing Iraq, Lebanon, and now Yemen.

The Iranian regime also systematically violates its own citizens’ basic rights.

And as terrifying is the potential for nuclear proliferation.

If Iran becomes a nuclear state we will see a regional race for the bomb, spreading the world’s most dangerous weapons through the world’s most unstable region.

Mr. Speaker, Congress played a critical role in bringing Iran to the negotiating table – Iran cannot be trusted – and Congress must continue to be vigilant.”
