Frankel Reacts to Visiting Homestead Facility for Unaccompanied Minors

Miami, FL – Today, Representative Lois Frankel (D-FL-21) issued the following video statement, transcribed below, after visiting the Homestead Influx Facility in South Florida to conduct oversight with her colleagues from the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education.

“I just came from the Homestead Influx Facility for unaccompanied minors. There are about 1,300 children out of the 11,000 scattered across the country. I got to talk to some of the children as part of the Appropriations Committee, we came to do oversight of the facility. The children came [to America] with hope in their eyes, many from very terrible conditions in their home countries. They described rough conditions crossing Mexico, but now that they’re here, it’s important that we treat them with humanity and with kindness, and most importantly that we reunite them with their families as quickly as possible.”
