Rep. Frankel Statement on Legislation to Protect the USPS

West Palm Beach, FL, August 22, 2020

Today, Representative Lois Frankel (FL-21) issued the following statement after voting to pass the Delivering for America Act

“The Postal Service is a pillar of our democracy, enshrined in the Constitution and essential for providing critical services for South Floridians: delivering prescriptions, Social Security benefits, paychecks, tax returns and vote-by-mail ballots to millions. Yet, at a time that the Postal Service is strained by the effects of COVID-19, the President – enabled by his top mega-donor Postmaster General Louis DeJoy – is waging a campaign to sabotage the USPS, degrading service and delaying the mail. Today, I’m proud to vote for the Delivering for America Act, which prohibits the Postal Service from implementing any changes to operations or level of service it had in place on January 1, 2020 and provides $25 billion in critical funding to support the Postal Service to ensure our mail can be delivered safely and on time.”

The bill passed the House by a vote of 257 to 150. It now goes to the Senate for consideration.
