Today, Co-Chairs of the bipartisan Women, Peace and Security Caucus (WPS) Representatives Lois Frankel (FL-21) and Michael Waltz (FL-06) were joined by 23 members to introduce a House Resolution commemorating the 20^th anniversary of the landmark UN Security Council Resolution 1325, which established the women, peace, and security agenda by recognizing the relationship between gender equality and long-term peace and security.

The resolution reaffirms the United States’ commitment to global leadership in increasing women’s meaningful participation in processes to prevent, manage, resolve, and recover from conflict, in accordance with the Women, Peace, and Security Act of 2017.

“Women and girls play an important role in the security and peacefulness of their countries,” said Rep. Frankel.  “Where there is gender equality, there is a greater likelihood that conflicts are prevented and ended.”

“Twenty years have passed since the United Nations recognized the importance of women’s inclusion worldwide – but the message is still as relevant as ever. The United States understands the importance of this message and will maintain its role as a successful leader of the women, peace and security agenda. Empowering women and ensuring their inclusion in peacemaking and security efforts is a bipartisan issue of global importance that will provide long-term stability and security worldwide,” said Rep. Michael Waltz.
