Rep. Frankel Statement on Final Passage of Historic COVID Relief Legislation

Bill now goes to President Biden to be signed into law.

Today, Representative Lois Frankel (FL-21), released the following statement after the American Rescue Plan Act passed the House of Representatives by a vote of 220 to 211.

“After the past year of stress and hardship on millions of people caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, Congress has passed President Biden’s historic American Rescue Plan that will save lives and livelihoods. It will get vaccines into the arms of Americans, return children safely to the classroom, put money into the pockets of families, and get people back to work. I can unequivocally say that this is the most important, impactful piece of legislation I have ever had the honor to vote for,” said Rep. Frankel.

Important provisions in the bill include:

  • A national vaccination program;
  • $130 billion to help safely reopen schools across the country;
  • $1,400 stimulus checks for Americans who need it most;
  • An expansion of federal unemployment insurance, $300 a week through September 6;
  • An infusion of $45 billion into the childcare industry to help centers stay open and help families pay for care;
  • Food, housing, and health insurance assistance;
  • An expansion of the child tax credit to help lift children and families out of poverty;
  • Critical support for small businesses through EIDL grants and expanded PPP eligibility; and
  • $130 billion for local governments, including $400 million in assistance for Palm Beach County and municipalities, to maintain essential services.

It now goes to the President to be signed into law.
