Today Congresswoman Lois Frankel invited all high school students in Florida’s 22nd Congressional District to participate in the 2013 Congressional Art Competition. “The Congressional Art Competition is a great way for students in South Florida to showcase their creativity and artistic talents and receive the opportunity to display their artwork in the Capitol,” Frankel said. “As someone who loves art and painting in my free time, I encourage all students from 9th through 12th grade to participate in the competition.” High school students from across the country participate in the annual Congressional Art Competition. The deadline to submit artwork to Frankel’s office is Monday April 8, 2013. All entries must be received in our district office by that deadline. The winning piece from Florida’s 22nd congressional district along with the winning pieces from Congressional all over the country will be displayed at the Capitol for one year. The winner will be invited to attend a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Capitol in honor of the exhibit in June 2013 and in addition to these honors, Congresswoman Frankel is hosting a reception for all students who submit artwork at the Boca Raton Museum of Art, where the winner will be announced. The Boca Raton Museum of Art will also hold an exhibit for all artwork submitted to our office. This exhibit will be on display from May 1 to May 26, 2013. Each year Frankel will request that a local art museum feature artwork submissions. Congresswoman Frankel’s Office and the Congressional Art Competition If you are a student in the 22nd Congressional District, you can submit your original piece for consideration in the Congressional Art Competition through Congresswoman Frankel’s Office. This year Frankel’s office has decided to leave the theme up to the artist’s imagination. The Congresswoman is assembling an independent panel of artists and artistic professionals from across the district who will select the winning submissions. Out of all the submissions, one winner will be chosen in each of the seven categories:
Once the finalist has been selected in each category, the panel will select a “Best in Show.” That piece will be sent to Washington, DC to hang in the U.S. Capitol for the next year. How to apply: Any 22nd District student interested in applying must fill out the release and application form. You can download the form here. 2500 North Military Trail Suite 490 Boca Raton, FL 33431
