Today, Congresswoman Lois Frankel (FL-21) released the following statement after voting to pass H.R. 4, TheJohn R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, which will restore the power of the Voting Rights Act to protect the right to vote.
“We have seen a relentless assault on our democracy, with more than a dozen states, including Florida, taking steps to make it more difficult for people to vote,” said Rep. Frankel. “This bill sets the stage to prevent and challenge those who restrict access to the ballot box. It honors the legacy of the late, great John Lewis, and the many other civil rights leaders who put their lives on the line to make sure that all American voices are heard. I urge the Senate to take up and pass this legislation immediately.”
The John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act passed the House by a vote of 219-212. It now goes to the Senate for consideration.
