West Palm Beach, FL – Today, Congresswoman Lois Frankel (FL-21) released the following statement after Florida state lawmakers filed a bill that would ban most abortions after 15 weeks. “The deeply personal decision of whether and when to bring a child into this world should be in the hands of people and persons they trust, not the politicians,” said Rep. Frankel. “This bill proposed in the Florida State Legislature is a continuation of Republican-led efforts to strip people of their freedom to access a safe, legal abortion and should be another clarion call for the U.S. Senate to take up the House-passed Women’s Health Protection Act, to finally ensure abortion care is always accessible, regardless of where someone lives.” The State Legislature’s proposal would ban nearly all abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy, and does not contain exceptions for rape or incest. Last fall, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Women’s Health Protection Act to push back on dangerous state laws such as this one. This bill would prohibit states from enacting medically unnecessary restrictions that unfairly target abortion providers and prevent patients from getting the care they need. ### |
