Rep. Frankel Statement on Passage of Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act

West Palm Beach, FL – Today, Congresswoman Lois Frankel (FL-21) released the following statement after voting to pass the Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Voting Rights Act, to protect American democracy, and ensure that every voter has access to the ballot box.

“The bedrock of democracy is the ability to make your voice heard at the ballot box. Yet, Republican-controlled state legislatures across the country—including in Florida—are enacting laws that that make it harder to vote, by limiting mail-in ballots, early voting, and other restrictions in an effort to suppress likely Democratic voters,” said Rep. Frankel. “Today, the House once again stood up to protect voting rights by advancing popular and common-sense national standards. It’s now time for the Senate to take a stand for democracy and send the Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act to President Biden’s desk immediately.”

The Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act passed the House by a vote of 220-203. It now goes to the Senate for consideration.
