Washington, DC – This week, House Democrats passed two major bills to lower costs for families. The Lower Food & Fuel Costs Act is a package of bipartisan bills to lower prices for America’s families in the grocery aisle and at the gas pump by giving America’s farmers and ranchers the support they need to thrive. The Ocean Shipping Reform Act gives the Federal Maritime Commission new tools to crack down on ocean shipping companies charging exorbitant fees and raising prices. These new tools will ensure that American consumers are not being overcharged and American products are not being left on the dock.

“We’ve all seen and felt the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic and Putin’s war in Ukraine driving up the cost of basic needs like food and gas,” said Rep. Frankel. “The Ocean Shipping Reform Act and the Lower Food & Fuel Costs will cut costs for Americans.”

The Lower Food & Fuel Costs Act passed the House by a vote of 221-204 and is awaiting action in the Senate, and the Ocean Shipping Reform Act passed both the House and Senate and President Biden is expected to sign the bill today.
