Rep. Frankel Statement on Disaster Relief

Washington, DC – Today, Representative Lois Frankel (FL-21) released the following statement after voting to pass the Continuing Appropriations and Ukraine Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2023 which prevents a government shutdown by extending funding for critical education, health, housing, and public safety programs through December 16th. This legislation authorizes billions for Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) relief for survivors of natural disasters, including Hurricane Ian, and provides over $12 billion in assistance to Ukraine for its ongoing fight to defend its democracy.

“The next few days, weeks, and months are going to be critical for Florida as we work to recover from Hurricane Ian. This legislation authorizes robust funding for disaster aid, which will ensure Floridians get the assistance we need as quickly as possible,” said Rep. Frankel. “The bill also keeps the government funded to ensure that the services families across our country rely on—like nutrition assistance, services for veterans, and more—continue to run without interruption. It sends additional assistance to the Ukrainian people as they fight for their home, their democracy, and their freedom, as well.”

The Continuing Appropriations and Ukraine Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2023 passed the House by a vote of 230-201. It now goes to the President for his signature.
