New Grant Program Will Reduce School Bus Emissions, Protect Children’s Health
The $400 million grant opportunity through the EPA’s Clean School Bus Program will fund electric, propane, and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses that will produce either zero or low tailpipe emissions compared to their older diesel predecessors. “Clean school buses protect children and our planet from the harmful effects of greenhouse gas emissions,” said Rep. Frankel. “This investment from President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which I proudly voted for, will reduce harmful pollution, create new jobs, and ensure that our children are breathing cleaner air when they travel on school busses.” These new EPA grants are made possible by President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which provided an unprecedented $5 billion to transform the nation’s fleet of school buses. This funding follows the nearly $1 billion the Biden-Harris Administration awarded through the rebate competition last year that funded over 2,500 electric and low-emission school buses across the country. Local, state, and tribal governments and other eligible applicants can use this funding to replace existing school buses with clean and zero-emission school buses, as well as fund charging or fueling infrastructure. More information and application forms can be found here. The EPA will also be hosting a virtual information session on Wednesday, May 10th at 3:00 PM.
