Rep. Frankel Statement on Trump Administration Withdrawing U.S. from Paris Climate Agreement

Washington, DC – Today, Rep. Lois Frankel (FL-22), Ranking Member of the National Security, Department of State, and Related Programs (NSRP) Appropriations Subcommittee, released the following statement after President Trump signed an executive order withdrawing the United States from the Paris Climate Agreement, a legally binding international treaty on climate change that is signed by nearly 200 countries. “The withdrawal from the Paris Climate Agreement isolates the United States from nearly 200 nations united in combating climate change," said Rep. Frankel. "It does not make our country safer, stronger, or more prosperous. The agreement is essential for addressing crises like devastating wildfires, extreme storms, and rising sea levels. Clean energy industries—such as solar, wind, and electric vehicles—are driving economic growth and creating millions of jobs worldwide." "By stepping away from this commitment, we risk ceding leadership to nations like the People’s Republic of China, which is heavily investing in these emerging markets," continued Rep. Frankel. "To protect our planet, strengthen our economy, and maintain global leadership, the U.S. must remain steadfast in its commitment to the Paris Agreement.” Rep. Frankel will join Rep. Brad Schneider (IL-10) in a House Resolution urging the Administration to rejoin the Agreement.
