Rep. Frankel Statement on Two Years Since Fall of Roe v. Wade

West Palm Beach, FL – Today, Congresswoman Lois Frankel (FL-22) released the following statement as the country marked two years since the Dobbs decision, when Donald Trump’s Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade. The decision revoked 49 years of reproductive rights, robbing women of the freedom to make their own reproductive health care decisions and access legal abortion.

“Politicians should not be interfering with personal medical decisions between patients and their doctors,” said Rep. Frankel. “Two years ago, Donald Trump’s Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision stripped women of their reproductive freedom, leading to a host of cruel, devastating state abortion bans, including the six-week ban here in Florida. This is why Congress needs to pass the Women’s Health Protection Act, a bill that would create legal protection for the right to provide and access abortion care nationwide, free from medically unnecessary restrictions and bans.”

In the two years since the Dobbs decision, 21 U.S. states have either banned or severely restricted abortion. Roughly one in three women of reproductive age in the U.S. now live without access to abortion care, causing devastating consequences for too many women.

Rep. Frankel is a co-lead of the Women’s Health Protection Act. The Republican-controlled House has yet to bring the bill to the Floor for a vote this Congress.
