Washington, DC – Today, Congresswoman Lois Frankel (FL-22) released the following statement after being named Ranking Member (top Democrat) of the House State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs (SFOPS) Appropriations Subcommittee for the 119th Congress. The SFOPS Subcommittee oversees U.S. funding in international diplomacy, development, and global health, shaping America’s foreign policy and its role on the international stage. “Today’s world is marked by an unprecedented level of interconnected challenges. From the ripple effects of regional conflicts and mass migrations to global supply chain disruptions and the urgent need to address humanitarian crises and climate resilience, the stakes are high for American security and economic prosperity,” said Rep. Frankel. “Decisions made on the SFOPS Subcommittee impact not only our international allies and partners, but also the well-being of families and businesses in the United States. By fostering stability abroad, the Subcommittee's work helps reduce threats like terrorism and cyberattacks while supporting markets that drive U.S. economic growth.” As Ranking Member, Congresswoman Frankel will serve as the lead Democrat on the Subcommittee, playing a critical role in shaping and overseeing the allocation of U.S. foreign assistance. This position enables her to influence key decisions on how the United States engages with allies, addresses global crises, and promotes its values abroad. The Ranking Member’s role requires balancing complex, interrelated issues to ensure that taxpayer dollars are used effectively to strengthen global stability and protect U.S. interests. This Congress marks Rep. Frankel’s fourth consecutive term serving on the Subcommittee. Prior to her appointment to the Appropriations Committee, Rep. Frankel served on the House Foreign Affairs Committee for three terms.
