Congresswoman Lois Frankel announced the winners of her first Congressional High School Art Competition for Florida’s 22^nd congressional district. The Congressional Award Ceremony was held Wednesday at the Boca Raton Museum of Art and the following students were recognized for their outstanding work:

1^st Place- Conner O’Byrne who attends Pine Crest School, for his photograph entitled Seeking Human Kindness. The purpose of the image is to show and explore the mindset of our society to habitually put those in need in the back of our minds, even when they are right in front of us.

2^nd Place- Devon Horn from North Broward Preparatory School, for her acrylic painting, Trevor Haubner.

3^rd Place-Alexandre Diaz who attends Forest Hill Community High School, for his charcoal drawing, Brave Heart

Honorable Mention

Irina Bit-Bakik who attends Nova High School, for her work, The Last Tango, an acrylic painting.

Nicole Cohen, who attends The Benjamin School, for her work, Following Gatsby, a digital photograph.

Emely Estevez, who attends Plantation High School, for her work, Cubism Animal, an acrylic painting.

Charles Krumholz, who attends Dreyfoos School of the Arts, for his work, Portrait of Robert, an acrylic painting.

“Congratulations to art competition winner Conner O’Byrne and all the students from Florida’s 22^nd congressional district who participated in the Congressional Art Competition,” Frankel said. “Our student artists are extraordinarily talented and creative. As a fellow artist and avid supporter of the arts and arts education, I am proud of all the students who submitted artwork.”

Art work of the winning artist and every student who competed in the art competition will be on display at the Boca Raton Museum of Art from now until May 26. 

The competition winner Conner O’Byrne and one guest will receive round-trip airfare tickets to attend a reception in Washington DC on June 26 to open the 2013 National Art Exhibit. Conner’s winning photograph then will be on display in the U.S. Capitol complex.
