WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congresswoman Lois Frankel (FL-21) issued the following statement after the Trump Administration refused to implement Congressionally-mandated sanctions on Russian defense and intelligence entities. These sanctions were enacted in response to Russia’s meddling in the 2016 elections.
“By failing to impose new sanctions, President Trump is letting Putin get away with a blatant assault on our democracy. The State Department’s justification that they have deterred Russia with the mere threat of sanctions is wrong and contradicts what CIA Director Mike Pompeo told us yesterday – Moscow will meddle again. Congress must consider additional measures to protect our election systems and hold Russia accountable.”
