Gun Violence Prevention

As a grandmother, I believe no parent or grandparent should fear for their child’s safety at school, the movies, or the grocery store. That’s why I have supported several policies to keep our communities safe from gun violence.

In 2022, Congress passed and President Biden signed into law the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, which addresses gun violence by keeping guns out of the hands of individuals under 21, helping the Department of Justice prosecute firearms traffickers, investing in mental health services, and closing loopholes that previously allowed domestic violence offenders to access firearms.

As a member of the Gun Violence Prevention Task Force, I will continue to fight for further legislation to reduce gun violence, including measures to require safe storage of firearms, require universal background checks, create an Office of Gun Violence Prevention, prohibit “ghost guns” (guns without serial numbers), ban assault weapons and high capacity magazines, eliminate gun manufacturers’ liability immunity, and establish federal extreme risk protection orders (“red flag laws”).
