West Palm Beach, FL – Today, Congresswoman Lois Frankel (FL-21) released the following statement after she voted to pass the Assault Weapons Ban of 2021, which would prohibit the sale, manufacture, transfer, or possession of semiautomatic assault weapons and high-capacity magazines. AR-15 style firearms have become the weapon of choice for shooters because they are designed to kill as many people as quickly as possible, and according to Everytown for Gun Safety, a federal assault weapon ban would decrease mass shooting deaths by 70 percent. “Assault weapons inflict horrific, devastating injury and death. They have no place in our schools, our streets, or anywhere in our communities,” said Rep. Frankel. “House Democrats are putting people over politics and answering the call of the American people to protect our children and families—now it’s up to the Senate to do the same.” The bill passed by a vote of 217 to 213. It now heads to the Senate for approval. |
