Fighting Back Against Trump

Hello Friends,

President Trump’s reckless policies are crashing our economy in real time. He promised to lower costs, instead, he's unleashing chaos and cruelty. His rubber-stamp Republicans in Congress pushed a draconian budget that slashes Medicaid and food assistance, and now they’re set on allowing vital Affordable Care Act assistance to expire--sending us into a government shutdown and bringing on skyrocketing health care premiums  for millions of Americans.

Trump and his allies are handing massive tax breaks to billionaire donors like Elon Musk and protecting corporations that already pay next to nothing. Meanwhile, working Americans are left to struggle with higher bills and fewer resources.

I know many of you are feeling anxious, angry, and overwhelmed. I hear your concerns, and I share your outrage. That’s why I’m committed to keeping you informed—and fighting back.

This page is here to update you on how my Democratic colleagues and I are standing up to this Administration. We’re using every tool we have—legislation, litigation, and community action—to protect the programs families depend on and hold this President accountable.

Democrats believe in strengthening Medicaid, food assistance, and other vital services by making the wealthy pay their fair share. We’re fighting to build an economy that works for everyone—not just billionaires and big corporations.

I encourage you to stay connected by subscribing to my newsletter and stay connected on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and Twitter.

As always, it’s my honor to represent you in Congress. I’ll keep fighting for you.

Lois Frankel

Member of Congress

How We're Fighting Back Against Trump

Communication

My Democratic colleagues and I are hitting TV, social media, radio, and town halls to keep you informed and shine a line on President Trump’s reckless agenda.

Trump and his buddies want to keep you in the dark. We won’t let him.

You can take a look here at my recent press conferences, social media posts, and press releases below.

Press Conferences

Most recently, I held a roundtable to hear from a local mother and an insurance expert on the devastating consequences our community would face if Republicans allow ACA aid to expire at the end of the year.

Rallies

I’ve been attending as many rallies as I can, standing alongside federal workers, seniors, and our hardworking neighbors who are speaking out against Trump’s chaos and cruelty.

Social Media

My team and I keep my social media pages updated with posts, videos, and articles to keep you informed on what I’m up to and the work we’re doing in South Florida and in Washington. I encourage you to subscribe to my newsletter here or follow me on FacebookTwitterInstagram, and YouTube to stay in the loop.

Recent Press Releases

Letters

As part of House Democrats’ push to hold the Trump Administration accountable, I’ve led and joined letters to the President and his cabinet to call out harmful actions, demand transparency, and defend the programs working families rely on across our country. Below are some of the letters I’ve led or joined:
  • letter urging Acting Social Security Commissioner Leland Dudek to keep all active Social Security field offices open, including the office on Clematis Street in West Palm.
  • letter urging Office of Management and Budget Director Russell Vought to reverse proposed cuts to the NOAA and National Weather Service workforce that threaten hurricane preparedness and response in Florida and across the country.
  • letter requesting Secretary of State Marco Rubio to provide details on the Trump Administration’s foreign assistance review, including a list of terminations and payment information.
  • letter urging National Institutes of Health Director Jay Bhattacharya to reconsider a proposed rule that would have a harmful impact on life-saving research across Florida’s universities, cancer centers, and health systems.
  • letter urging President Donald Trump to rescind his executive order stripping collective bargaining rights from 75 percent of the federal workforce, which would be an unprecedented assault on the rights of 1.5 million federal employees and the broader labor movement.
  • letter urging USPS Deputy Postmaster General Doug Tulino to halt his decision to eliminate 10,000 postal worker positions, which would undermine mail delivery services, delay essential prescriptions and payments, and hurt federal workers who serve communities across the country.
  • letter urging Acting FEMA Administrator Cameron Hamilton to reverse the Administration’s decision to pause the release of federal grant funding, including the Non-Profit Security Grant Program, which provides life-saving support to protect faith-based communities and institutions.
  • letter to Governer DeSantis and Attorney General Uthmeier calling on the state of Florida to join 25 states suing the Department of Education over illegally withheld funding.
  • letter to Homeland Security Secretary Noem (DHS), Inspector General Cuffari (OIG), Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Acting Director Lyons, and Acting Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Administrator Richardson demanding transparency and accountability surrounding the facilities operations.
  • letter to the Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, Inspector General Joseph Cuffari, Comptroller General Gene Dodaro, and Warden of Richwood Correctional Center Ms. Lisa Bowen calling for an immediate investigation into the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP)’s mistreatment of women in their custody.
  • letter to Office of Management and Budget and Department of Education demanding they release the $7 billion of funding for K-12 schools and adult education that support students and teachers. The has since been released.

Legislation

Democrats have been proactive and responsive fighting back with legislation—introducing bills to stop Elon Musk and DOGE from exploiting your personal data, protect the U.S. Department of Education, prevent the closure of Social Security Administration field offices, and more. You can read up on some of the most relevant bills I’ve co-sponsored here:

  • The Claws Off Social Security Act, which I introduced, would protect seniors from having their entire Social Security checks withheld in cases of accidental overpayment.

  • The Keeping Our Field Offices Open Act, which is a bill to stop Elon Musk and the Trump Administration from closing any Social Security Administration field or hearing office for the remainder of the Administration.

  • The Protect Veteran Jobs Act, which would reinstate Veterans who have been removed or fired from federal employment without cause since President Trump began recklessly purging the federal workforce.

  • The Department of Education Protection Act, which would prohibit the use of appropriated funds to be used to decentralize, reduce the staffing level of, or alter the responsibilities, structure, authority, or functionality of the Department of Education.

  • The LEASH DOGE Act, which would require DOGE to provide a list to Congress of its employees, their roles, whether they’ve undergone background checks, obtained security clearance, and conflicts of interest. It would also require DOGE to appear before Congress to present information on its activities, creation of a DOGE website that lists DOGE employees and their roles, and programs that have been reduced, paused, or eliminated.

  • The Accountability in Government Efficiency Act, which would direct the Government Accountability Office to study the long-term financial, safety, and public health impacts of DOGE’s activities as well as its impact on the civil service.

  • The Reproductive Data Privacy and Protection Act prevent law enforcement from improperly surveilling women receiving reproductive health care, including preventing access to health messaging apps, period trackers, and geolocation data.

  • The Saving Lives and Taxpayer Dollars Act to require that funding be made available to get the commodities to recipients before they expire, ensure every effort is made to sell, donate, or otherwise make available those commodities, and that the Department of State, in coordination with USAID and USDA, report on any destroyed, expired, or spoiled commodities.

  • The STOP NOAA Closures Act block the Trump Administration from closing National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) facilities.

  • The No Cages in the Everglades Act to prohibit The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) from operating, building, leasing, staffing, or maintaining any immigration detention facility within or near the Everglades ecosystem, including Alligator Alcatraz.

The House Appropriations Committee (the Committee I serve on which determines federal spending) also released a website tracking all the vital federal investments that the Trump Administration has illegally frozen. Remember, this is funding that was already signed into law to pay for public safety, transportation, public health, and national security that Trump is now trying to withhold. As a senior Member of the Appropriations Committee, I’m making my voice heard in meetings and hearings to challenge this harmful, lawless overreach. You can read more here

Litigation

Lawsuits

Advocacy organizations have filed over 400 lawsuits challenging the Trump Administration’s harmful actions. While Members of Congress cannot sue the federal government directly, we’re actively supporting legal teams and advocacy groups by providing the information they need to hold the President accountable in court. You can track all the ways Democrats are aiding the legal processes here. You can track each pending lawsuit by clicking here. You can also track where many of Trump’s initiatives stand in the legal process here . Below are some recent court rulings that have gone against the Trump Administration:
  • Mass Layoffs Halted: A federal judge temporarily blocked Trump’s executive order that enabled the administration to fire tens of thousands of federal workers and to eliminate certain agencies entirely. (Click here to learn more)

  • School Funding Threat Unconstitutional: Three judges, including a Trump-appointed judge in Maryland, issued separate rulings limiting the Trump Administration’s ability to withhold federal funds from public schools over their diversity and inclusion policies. (Click here to learn more)

  • Election Power Grab Blocked: A judge blocked part of Trump’s sweeping executive order on voting, finding that the president does not have the power to regulate federal elections. (Click here to learn more)

  • Ghislaine Maxwell's Appeal Rejected—The Supreme Court declined to consider throwing out the 2021 sex-trafficking conviction of Ghislaine Maxwell, Jeffrey Epstein’s co-conspirator. With Maxwell’s appeal denied, DOJ is fully out of excuses for withholding the full release of the Epstein Files. (Click here to learn more)

  • Voice of America Restored: A judge blocked the Trump Administration from dismantling the Voice of America after Trump unlawfully shuttered the Congressionally-created news agency. Voice of America provides news to authoritarian countries that don’t have a free press. It began in World War II as a counterpoint to Nazi propaganda and played a prominent role in the U.S. government’s Cold War efforts to curb the spread of communism. (Click here to learn more)

Amicus Briefs

As part of House Democrats’ push to hold the Trump Administration accountable, I’ve signed onto amicus briefs, which are legal filings submitted to the courts by Members of Congress to offer additional perspective in key court cases. Below are some of the briefs I’ve joined:
  • An amicus brief  defending birthright citizenship and opposing the Trump Administration’s unconstitutional executive order aimed at ending this constitutional protection.
  • An amicus brief  challenging the Trump Administration’s misuse of tariff authority, emphasizing that only Congress holds the power to impose tariffs and regulate commerce, and arguing that the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) does not grant the President authority to impose reckless, inconsistent tariffs that have destabilized the U.S. economy.
  • An amicus brief  challenging the Trump Administration’s attempt to shut down the U.S. Department of Education by placing half of its workforce on administrative leave without approval from Congress.
  • An amicus brief  challenging the Trump Administration’s illegal and devastating cuts to life-saving medical research grants at the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
  • An amicus brief  for NAACP v. US, arguing to the United States District Court District of Maryland that President Trump’s attempts to dismantle the Department of Education (ED) violate separation of powers and lack constitutional authority.
  • An amicus brief  before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit challenging President Donald Trump’s sweeping and chaotic tariffs that were unlawfully imposed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA).
  • An amicus brief  challenging the Office of Management and Budget’s unlawful freezing of congressional appropriated funds in order to further President Trump’s reckless agenda.

What You Can Do

1. Let Elected Officials Know Where You Stand

  • Call all of your elected representatives regularly and demand accountability. Let them know you oppose Trump’s agenda and expect them to fight for working families.

2. Organize and Mobilize

  •  Join or form a local group of advocates committed to change. Organizing with others amplifies your impact.
  • Attend town halls and rallies. Showing up sends a clear message that your community is engaged and watching.
