Frankel – Medicare Advantage Saved For Seniors

Congresswoman Frankel has urged the Administration to not cut Medicare Advantage by 1.9 percent as originally planned.

“I thank President Obama for listening to the millions of seniors who depend upon Medicare Advantage by increasing the funding,” said Frankel.

In February, the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) proposed a 1.9 percent cut in payments to private insurance companies for 2015.  Concerned with the impact of the cuts on Medicare Advantage beneficiaries, Congresswoman Frankel joined 198 members from both sides of the aisle on March 11 in sending a letter to CMS, urging against any further cuts to beneficiaries in the Medicare Advantage program.  Congresswoman Frankel sent a second letter as the deadline neared, reiterating her concern with the proposed cuts to MA.

As a result of the change in policy, payments to Medicare Advantage will increase by .4 percent in 2015.   Since passage of the Affordable Care Act, enrollment in Medicare Advantage has increased annually since the law was signed in 2010.

South Florida represents one of the highest concentrations of Medicare Advantage enrollees – over 121,000 in Broward County, and over 90,000 in Palm Beach County.
