Congresswoman Lois Frankel issued the following statement after a judge in the Florida Keys overturned the state’s ban on same-sex marriage. 

“If we are truly a nation where the pursuit of happiness is for one and for all, than any person regardless of gender should be allowed to live in a committed relationship with the one they love.  This ruling is a victory in the fight for full equality – and it brings Florida closer to the right side of history and the right side of the law,” said Frankel.

The ruling by Circuit Judge Luis M. Garcia applies only to Monroe County, and was appealed.  There is currently a lawsuit pending in federal court in Tallahassee that would overturn the state’s ban, and recognize same-sex marriages performed in other states.
