Washington, DC – Today, Representative Lois Frankel (FL-22) released the following statement after voting against House Republicans’ H.R. 5, an extreme bill that harms students, teachers, and schools.

“H.R. 5 is the latest Republican political stunt that drags their extreme culture war into the classroom. We’ve already seen the impact of these cruel policies in Florida where books are being banned, and LGBTQ+ students are getting bullied,” said Rep. Frankel. “Parents should have meaningful engagement in their children’s schooling. They want their children to be safe while receiving high-quality, well-rounded education.” 

House Democrats have put forward numerous measures that put people over politics and improve education, make schools safer, and address learning loss due to the pandemic. House Republicans have refused to join these efforts.
