Rep. Frankel Statement on Trump Administration’s Plans to Slash VA Workforce

Washington, DC – Today, Representative Lois Frankel (FL-22) issued the following statement in response to the Trump Administration’s plan to cut 80,000 jobs from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), threatening critical health care and services for millions of Veterans.

“Veterans’ benefits are not handouts—they are a sacred promise, earned through service and sacrifice to our country. Yet, President Trump is pushing reckless cuts to the VA, gutting the workforce that provides lifesaving care and support for the men and women who wore their uniforms with honor and sacrificed so much for our nation,” said Rep. Frankel.

“This plan would roll back the significant progress made in expanding VA care, including for over 1 million Veterans exposed to burn pits during their service—Veterans who are finally receiving the health care they deserve under the PACT Act,” continued Rep. Frankel. “The VA exists to deliver the specialized care our Veterans have rightfully earned. Firing tens of thousands of VA doctors, nurses, and specialists will only result in longer wait times, delayed treatments, and increased reliance on private providers—many of whom lack the expertise to treat service-related conditions.”

“This is not how we should honor our Veterans’ service and sacrifice—it’s how we abandon them.”
