Frankel Announces Support of New House Comprehensive Immigration Reform Bill

Congresswoman Lois Frankel announced that she is co-sponsoring a comprehensive immigration reform bill, the Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act, introduced by Congressman Joe Garcia (FL-26) and several other House Democrats.

This bill is designed to receive bipartisan support in the House. It has many provisions from the common-sense, comprehensive immigration reform bill that passed the Senate in June by a bipartisan vote of 68 to 32.

“We are a nation built by immigrants and we should have an immigration system that reflects those values,” Frankel said. “We need to create a new immigration process with a roadmap to citizenship and where aspiring Americans pay taxes, families stay together, students who go to school here can contribute to our economy and there is orderly movement across borders.”

Frankel believes that to pass immigration reform in the House, Democrats and Republicans must compromise. The immigration bill Frankel signed onto is a compromise bill aimed at garnering bipartisan support.

“Now it’s up to the House to act and pass comprehensive immigration reform,” Frankel said.
