Washington, DC—Today, Congresswoman Lois Frankel (FL-21) released the following statement after Senate Republicans introduced a bill that would institute a nationwide abortion ban. “Republicans have been pushing toward their dark and extreme goal of a nationwide abortion ban for decades, and now that the Supreme Court has stripped women of their legal right to access abortion care, MAGA Republicans are moving quickly to make abortion illegal all across America,” said Rep. Frankel. “Women deserve to be in control of their own bodies and have the ability to make decisions about their health, lives, and futures free from interference from their elected officials. The fight for abortion access is far from over and House Democrats will continue to push to protect reproductive freedom in this country.” Rep. Frankel was an original co-lead of the Women’s Health Protection Act, which would codify the right to an abortion and prohibit states from enacting medically unnecessary restrictions that unfairly target abortion providers and prevent patients from getting the care they need. The bill passed the House on two separate occasions in the past year; however, the Senate has failed to advance it. ### |
