Rep. Frankel Opposes Proposed Republican Budget Cuts that Endanger the Public, Slash Senior Benefits, Child Care

West Palm Beach, FL – Today, Representative Lois Frankel (FL-22) released the following statement in response to proposed budget cuts by Republicans in Congress. The Biden Administration reports that the Republican proposal would have devastating impacts on the American people.

“House Republicans have proposed budget cuts that would cause irreparable damage to families across the country,” said Rep. Frankel. “Their budget would slash funding for Meals on Wheels and close Social Security field offices. More than a million families would lose rental assistance and potentially face eviction, 300,000 children would lose access to child care and Head Start, and we would lose critical resources in the fight against the opioid epidemic. I will fight to get these essential programs off the Republican chopping block.”

The proposed House Republican budget:

  • Cuts nutrition services such as Meals on Wheels for more than 1 million seniors.
  • Forces the Social Security Administration to close field offices, causing people applying for disability benefits to wait an additional 2 months for the processing of claims.
  • Takes away child care and Head Start slots for 300,000 children—undermining our children’s education and making it more difficult for parents to join the workforce.
  • Ends rental assistance for 640,000 families and evicts more than 430,000 low-income families from public housing.
  • Undermines our ability to secure the border and combat drug trafficking, allowing hundreds of thousands of pounds of drugs, including opioids, into our country.
